International Property Measurement Standards (IPMS): Residential Building has been released by the IPMS Coalition - a body that includes more than 70 professional bodies.

So, we had to move to a serviced office as our last one was being redeveloped into flats. We then get a call from the new owner of the serviced office to ask us if we would like to survey and produce a full set of drawings for…. you guessed it. This building. That will teach us to have our office in trendy parts of London.

IPMS Offices – The new area calculation standard

As you may (or may not) know the way areas are calculated for Offices has changed from the 1st January 2016.

The new standard is called IPMS (International Property Measurement Standards) for offices.

It is a new standard for measuring property internationally that has been produced to ensure the same method of reporting areas of buildings is use.

At the moment, it only applies to offices, but will in time be applicable for Residential, retail, industrial and leisure. RICS say that it is mandatory for all members and as measurement consultants we are to treat it in the same way as the current Code of Measuring practice 6th edition.

Now that the building is nearing practical completion having undergone a dramatic transformation by the developers Resolution Properties they instructed Plan London to survey the building to provide warranted areas of the completed spaces.

Plan London have been instructed by Southwark Council to produce survey drawings for 4 unused car parks in the borough as part of the councils drive to reinvent previously neglected spaces.

Client of Blakeney Leigh, The Estate office have asked us to survey 20 different building consisting of 35 units (residential, office and leisure) and produce up-to-date floor plans with area calculations. It’s a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it!

The Estate Office

Based on our previous performance – yes it was good! The Estate Office has instructed us again. This time it is to survey and produce floor plans with area calculations for 90 units in Shoreditch including 60 flats in a newly converted warehouse on Kingsland Road.

Turkey’s asking for Christmas

The office that has been our home in East Dulwich for 7 years is to be redeveloped into luxury flats. Guess who they asked to measure and produce the existing drawings for the project….?
